This week I got a fire lit under me for a couple of reasons. First, I just got back from the Podcast & New Media Expo and I always feels energized after that. More importantly though, I got a well-written email from Chris A. and his thoughts on how he feels the show has declined. Does he have a point? Tune in and find out.

    Hi Scott,

I am writing this while driving in heavy traffic on my phone and with a text predictor in Spanish so please forgive typing mistakes.

I listened to the show last night. And I am still laughing ay the image of the parking meter thief. Even if he got away with 2000 I picture him paying everywhere with nickels, dimes and quarters!

About the show, I really like it, I see chris’ point of how it has changed but I think it’s part of a natural evolution and practice and experience rather than a fórmula pe just short changing.

    Greetings From méxico!

    Alice

you know, change isn’t necessarily bad. i like to think that this show has evolved, but it still hangs on to its roots.

plenty fired up enough for me.

i think scott just needs a hug. oh, wait…

I have been told a lot during my life that I am an angry person. Or that I have a bad temper. I am sure that they were right at one time. My wife makes comments to me that I am not the same as I used to be. That basically I am more calm, and easy going kind of guy. When I started to think about it, I had the same conclusion that you did. My life is where I want it to be at the moment. I have a great job, new house, love my wife and our cat.

That doesn’t mean my fire is gone. I can still get pretty heated over different subjects, or people’s actions. I guess I have just learned not to care about some things, or not let it bother me as much.

I don’t think you have lost the intensity the show had at the beginning. I agree with Jim, change comes no matter what, and I still like the direction of the show.

Re: New Fall TV, Check out Cane on CBS, it was pretty good. Great show this week, thanks.

I appreciate the fact that you took the time out of your show to discuss a sensitive issue with any creative individual—constructive criticism. Being in a similar industry (creative) I know that it can be tough to swallow such a pill, but I’m the first in line to commend you for that. And thanks for discussing it head on.

You have some good points. And to be honest with myself, I’m not sure my umbrella statements (i.e. shorter shows) relay back to a particular show or feeling, but instead a key word for my immediate thoughts of late. I think you said it well though when you stated that you had sort of been feeling that vibe lately with shows, and that’s really what I was getting at.

This all being said, I’m a big fan of the show (obviously) and I look forward to your renewed commitment and desire to do something that you originally started for most certainly an entirely different reason you still do it today; and that’s ok. Times change. Things evolve. And I’m excited to see what’s next.

    Scott,

I used to be very angry and anxious myself. The past few years I have become less angry due to me making peace with a lot of past issues I have had with certain family members. This summer I have become less anxious. I still have passion but I have stopped stressing the small stuff and things that are out of my control. This is in part to getting a taste of my own medicine. I became vice president of a new club being started at school. The president is very passionate and excited. He stresses about everything used to call me at ungodly hours and just so in your face. I mean he is a nice guy but I’ve become more passive and relaxed due to this. We all change, we all grow, and we try new things. I have been keeping a journal over the past year or so and it weird for me to read what I wrote. The things that freaked me out then I don’t remember now and things that freak me out now won’t matter in 6 months. If we don’t grow or change as human beings then we can’t evolve as human beings. I am busy but I alway try to make a comment on here because I love the show. Of course the show is going to change and evolve because you evolved.

    As always great show,

I’ll keep listening as long as you want to do this!!

I love this show, Scott. I love how varied and ever-changing it is, with the constant being you. I would have never listened to that interview had you not posted it, and I loved every second of it. It has never occurred to me that the show isn’t what it used to be. I adore it because it’s never the same show twice.

    In short:
    You rock, man.

  8. Scott Says:

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. It’s totally reinvigorated me. Watch out!

This week – almost live from San Francisco! :)

    Hey Scott

Only just got the show, what you said reminded me of something my dad always says to me, that basically its great to have people who support you and what you do, but often its the people that disagree and challenge you that really bring out your strengths.

Re: the hugging thing, in the UK there was a similar issue in that teachers and classroom assistants are not allowed ‘inappropriate contact with pupils’ which I totally appreciate in cases where it really is inappropriate, but its basically meant no hugging/affection to kids for fear of scandle. But a specialist school that handles young children who have been excluded from other schools have encouraged their staff to show affection. In the papers they called it ‘hug a thug’. The long and the short of it being that, funnily enough, kids respond better to positive affection, rather than just punishment.

The show was cool – keep it coming. It makes me smile that I always thought of American’s (and this is horribly xenophobic) as nothing like me and not the sort of people I could agree with (thanks British press!), but you consistently prove that wrong!

  10. Rachael Says:

    Oh, and random question:

Original Harder, Better, Faster Stronger – Daft Punk or Stronger – Kanye West

nice choice of song there ;)

  11. Kasey Says:

I just found your show (via iTunes radio) and I love it! I immediately grabbed all the past shows that were available through iTunes, and I’m looking forward to listening to them all.

Maybe the feelings about your show being short has something to do with the fact that your news stories are so interesting I’m always wanting more. I hate to hear the “last story” announcement.

    Keep up the good work!

    your new avid listener.

hi Scott, how’s is going? Sorry i’m typing this so late as when the show was released. I’d just like to say how well I thought you dealt with that “criticism?” (if that’s the right word) the other day. I can only imagine that the show can get a bit tedious sometimes especially when you have a hectic life and by the sounds of it you do. I personally think the show is awesome to be honest, that dirtbag of the week Wendy Cook clip was a freakin’ classic!! So you still have me as a fan, keep it up and I look forward to every future episode.

    Goodbye from the UK.

Just thought Id add my two cents about tv shows that I enjoy…

Nip/Tuck is really good. They are in their fifth season (starts late October). Its a little off the wall, but fun and can be pretty educational as a lot of the cases they do in the show are based off of real ones.

Weeds is hilarious! If you havent seen Weeds before you are missing out! It comes on ShoTime I believe in the States (im from Canada so I get it on the movie channel).

  14. The Original Laughing Cat Says:

    Flat Headed Cat…

One of the most aquatic of all cats, the Flat Headed Cat shares many attributes with the fishing cat, and yet is one of the most unique of all felids. A small wild cat, the Flat Headed Cat is nearly two feet in length and weighs around six pounds. The …
