Circuit City Sells What’s Left of Its Soul
I was reading this article in Business Week about how Circuit City is firing 8% of its workforce immediately so that it can cut costs. Ok, you’re probably thinking that layoffs are a part of business, right? This move is clearly aimed at culling the better paid workers at Circuit City stores. So, let’s say that you’ve worked for retailer for 10 years – you’ve been a loyal hardworking employee and are knowledgable about the company and their products. They will most likely be firing you. You can, however, after a 10 week delay, re-apply for your old job back at entry level pay. Are you fucking kidding me? Imagine if your company did that? “Hey Bob, thanks for your loyalty and years of service, but you’re fired…oh and feel free to apply for your old job again in 3 months at 50% of your current salary.” Wow. I seriously hope this backfires on them.

Wow this is seriosly one of the biggest pieces of BS I’ve ever seen. I mean why not cut entry level jobs, there knowledge of products and everything else is minimal, compared to the masses of informawhich these people have gathered over the years.

As a small business owner I believe Circuit city is going about what they are doing is ass backwards. You can accomplish the cost cutting and maximizing of profits by not hiring lower paid part time workers and reworking there full time workforce. If it means paying a little more in overtime or hiring a few more full time workers it saves you form hiring twice as many lower paid less knowledgeable workers and demeaning there product. (Think of Best Buy does any one in that company know anything about the product they are selling? May I say NO.) By having a knowledgeable workforce you can focus who you want to ” target market”, build demand, and increases sales. Maybe corporate of Circuit City should have the same fate as their other workers. ( Do you think they would even conceder coming back to the company? No they would probably get a jobs and Best Buy.)
