I thought that because of the holidays it would be a slow news week. I actually thought I’d have to look long and hard to find enough decent material to do a show. Boy was I wrong. This show is equal parts bizarre news and real-world issues/concerns. Let’s start off 2007 with bang!

I really enjoyed Rocky Balboa as well!

If I could go back in time and erase Rocky V and put this one in it’s place, the universe would be realigned and all would be well in the Rocky world again.

  2. Michman Says:

My God… I always thought that only in Russia typical teacher gets small amount of money… Teachers get salary and it’s enough only to pay the rent… But you have similar problem in USA… unbelievable… So, I think our governments don’t want us to be smart. And I can understand why…
    Sorry for my mistakes…

  3. Scott Says:

Michman – I think that Teacher’s salaries are a problem everywhere. Are there any countries where teacher pay is comparable and viewed as jobs as important as a doctor or lawyer? It should be, but our priorities are screwed up.

And Brian, Rocky IV was on cable last night….it is amazing how much younger he looks. Damn those are good movies though. Two words: training montage!

Yes, Rocky Balboa was a great movie. I think I’m the only one who liked V. I will admit, Tommy Morrison’s acting makes it hard to like, but I still liked it because it was way different than the other movies and it showed another side of the Rocky character. Oh yeah, and his kid was a little shit in V too. The latest one I could relate to a lot which would explain my fondness of the movie.

As for Sadam, I’m shocked that people were actually boggled that there was a video of the execution considering the amount of video leakage lately. I’m not too shocked about the behavior of the surrounding cavemen at the execution. No one else should be either since that’s basically how those people act over there…..like cavemen. It’s a no win situation over there.

I agree with Michman’s comment about our governments wanting us to be dumb. If everybody were smart enough to figure out what’s going on behind the government’s curtains then we wouldn’t take their shit. That’s why they want us to be dumb. They only want the few to educate themselves…..survival of the fittest. I wouldn’t complain too much though. Living in a country like ours is better than starving and dying of disease in some poor country.

  5. Daniel Says:

I’m a newcomer to your show – but I’m hooked already… I absolutely love it! Many kudos from East Tennessee!

As far as teaching jobs go – yes, it’s incredibly sad. We pay ridiculous salaries to some of the most undeserving people in our society… athletes, actors, and major elected officials come to mind – while teachers totally get the shaft. I know quite a few individuals from college that graduated with education degrees, only to end up working as bartenders or waitresses – because teaching didn’t pay the bills. And the dumbing down of the world continues… sigh

Anyhow, that’s my brief rant. Cheers to a new year – I wish you much success with the show, and much health and happiness with the family! (Including Mia!!)

  6. jeff.buratti Says:

    Scott,
I just want to say im PISSED off about you saying saddam’s hanging was not justice. Do you have any idea how many people he killed for NO reason, other than what they thought? They did not even get a trial, and it was much more severe than hanging. In my opinion, they should have cut off his ears, fingers, toes, and penis, then stabbed him till he was dead.

  7. Michman Says:

    Jeff,
Yes, Saddam was guilty, yes, he killed many people… but, everyone has right to live… And we shouldn’t do what he did, we shouldn’t become like other terrorists and criminals. That’s difference between us and them. But, Saddam is dead and it was political game, was another “political step” before New Year. And the whole trial was a circus. And I agree with someone from TV who said that now Saddam became a martyr. Justice and terrorism have one main difference – If you were convicted of a crime by court, you have right to live and chance to live. If you were “convicted of a crime by terrorists”, you wouldn’t have any right and any chance to live… And we shouldn’t forget about it.

    p.s. I’m sorry for my mistakes…

  8. Christina Says:

    Hey Scott,

I think reality TV has gone to far. Did you hear about the 10 year old boy who hung himself trying to recreate saddam’s hanging? Here is the link for it.

We need to stop all this dumb this violence and senseless killing. I mean what are we doing were poisoning the minds of our youth. We need more intelligent people in this world but is it me have they disappeared?

  9. NathanO Says:

Hey Scott, as usual, I enjoyed your show. Thanks for the entertainment of news for another week.

With regard to New Year Resolutions, I totally agree with you… for the same reason I never feel a year older on my birthday. It’s just a day older than yesterday, right? Same as any other day. And yet, for me, sometimes I need that feeling of a fresh start to use as an excuse to really take the time to come up with a way to commit to improving my life in some specific way. I don’t know about you, but even though I think I’m a decent/good person, I don’t wake up on some random day through the year and say to myself, “that’s it, I’ve had… I am going to change my ways starting now.” So even though Jan. 1st is a completely arbitrary time to start something, at least it’s a subconscious “fresh start” day to begin a new habit.

  10. Scott Says:

Jeff – I’ll address your points on this week’s show.

Christina – I did hear about that. You’re right, violence begets more violence. We don’t seem to grasp that in our society though.

Nathan – I can see your point. I applaud people that commit to bettering themselves. My point was that I am trying to live my in a way that doesn’t wait for the new year to make a change for the better. If I see a way I can make a positive change, I want to start on it right away!

Thanks all for your comments. Talk to you this week.

  11. Christina Says:

    Jeff,

I can see what you are saying and a lot of people say it was justice. Yes, he did a lot of bad and evil things I get that. See here is my problem with his execution, that it was more out of revenge than justice. I am all for the death penalty don’t get me wrong, but was the way he died really just? Did it serve the purpose of justice or revenge? Justice in my mind would be the death penalty plus restitution. We not going to solve violence with violence this cycle needs to end or it is just going to suck the world up as a whole.

  12. John Says:

They should have killed Sadam by smothering him with love and group hugs.

  13. Scott Says:

I’m not sure there has ever been an actual recorded death from love and group hugs, but hey, it’s worth a try!

  14. Joon Says:

Things would have been so much more simple if Sadam had been killed during the course of his capture or during the initial air raids on Baghdad.

Sadam deserved to die but not in the way that he finally did go.
I’m pretty sure he killed a lot of people for no good reason and like Jeff said, probably without a fair trial but just because Sadam was a bad boy doesn’t mean that we have to return the same courtesy. Wouldn’t that pretty much put us on the same level as Sadam in the end?

  15. Matt Says:

    Best…Episode…Ever.

  16. Lizzers Says:

Kay about that whole salary thing- I live in Alberta,Canada and we have a real problem on our hands- We dont have enough workers through out the whole the province, and there are tens of thousands of people coming per year! Last year we got like 90,000 new albertains!
And the mim. wage used to be around maybe 6 dollars an hour? now its around 8-12 dollars!
Its crazy, i dont get why there are any jobs considering some jobs pay 20 dollars per hour! I suppose the cost for houses is really exspensive now, and there is a shortage, but its insane!

  17. yoyo Says:

I also agree with Matt this has to be my favourite episode and some of your best work so far Scott.

I personally have found that many key jobs in society get paid less than they should. I mean, maintence workers (ie garbage men, street crews etc.) yes there jobs aren’t that mentally demanding but these are roles in society which are required for a city to operate well. These people have jobs which stop our cities from turning into giant land fills. I think a pay rise for these men and women is definately in order.

  18. Nick Says:

Scott, I thought you were quoting me when you were talking about leaving a little extra with tips, etc (using your resources). I’ve said almost the exact word for word thing for a while now about how its only a couple of bucks to me & you, but to the server busting their ass it could mean the world. I hate it when my friends have like a $12.40 breakfast tab and leave the girl $2.50. Come on, leave her a $5 for god’s sake. I think 20% is too low on anything under $40. 40% is the new 20%!

  19. Nick Says:

I don’t need $200k / yr for my public service. I’ll protect the rule of law for $150k / yr! Stupid elite greedy bastards.
