Mia is back in the hospital and that is weighing heavily on me. It’s been a hard week. Just barely made it through the show:

  • Getting Your Freak On with Wax
  • One Man’s Opinion
  • Camcorder or Pasta Sauce?
  • Mighty Minute
  • Santa Banned in Germany and Austria
  • Rock Star Supernova – Headspin

Keeping fingers crossed for a good outcome for your little girl. Hugs to all.

About Coca Cola and Santa Claus. The Coca Cola Company did not invent it, though they somewhat sharpened the idea and used it heavily. There is a nice treatment of the subject here:

Good luck to Kim and yourself, I love my dog to death too, even though he has destroyed most of my stuff. But the stories are just not as good if I didn’t have him.
He actually almost killed my roommate. He has a problem with taking silverware out of the sink (or we have a problem putting it in the dish washer…. whatever) He grabbed a nice sharp steak knife by the handle and ran into my roommates room where he was deep into MLB 2006. Coby (the dog) leaps right next to the non-expired roomie, barely missing him with the knife.
Im sure if the aim was a foot in the other direction, you might have had a story.
keep up the great show man! been there since the beginning.

The vet confirmed with us this morning that Mia does have liver disease. They are hoping that it is an infection as opposed to something like cancer. The infection could be treated with anitbiotics and other medicine, cancer….not so easily. For now we don’t have real answers.

I would also like to thank Jim for his donation towards Mia medical care. So far we’re in the hole for about $1200 and it will likely get to between $2000 and $3000 if they continue to treat her. Jim’s support helps. Thanks again for your kindness.

I will keep you all posted.

Just wanted to say hope Mia gets better. My wife, daughter and I hav 11 cats and love them like they are our own. If anything happen to any of them it would be a sad day. (even though most of them we aquired from people who could or would not take care of them properly.) Last year one of our cats got kidney disease right before we went on a long vaction. We were faced with the decition to eather euthinize him or let him suffer wile we were gone. In the end we had to let him go. I hope you are not in that position and I pray mia, your wife, and you come out of it fine.

    Our payers are with you

I’m glad to see the Santa Claus – Coca Cola link has been sufficiently explained.

I did want to comment on the segment about junk mail. One think that you can do in an effort to relieve yourself of the junk mail burden is to write on the envelope “Refused Return to Sender” this works on all of the junk that says return postage guaranteed. This forces the sender to pay for the postage and throw the letter away themselves adding to their costs. If enough people do this they would eventually shut down, but for you personally they will eventually remove you from their lists.

Also on the story about the $1600 camcorder, this is not so unusual. Here is a link from TUAW about the same thing but only with an iPod. This happened in transit, so in reality it might not have been a Best Buy or Sony employee but somebody in the freight company.

    Best of luck with Mia

    Chris

I am so sorry to hear about Mia. I know whats it is like. A little over a year again I had to take my dog to animal hosiptal and it broke my heart. I thought it was life threatening but it wasn’t all she has to to is take vitamins and pain killers for the rest of her life. Which is so much better than the Alternative. I wish you and kim luck, I know what’s like and i wish this much pain upon no one.

  9. Michael Says:

Hey Scott, Love the show, listen to it every week. Sorry ‘bout Mia, although good thoughts are coming your way. My dog Buckley and I are super close, I don’t know how I ever lived without him and could not imagine not having him.
Oh yeah, about those pesky “credit card checks”....I’m confused. Isn’t that like a step backwards in the whole “form of payment” evolution? I use a card so I don’t have to write a check. Sound’s pretty silly and ass backwards. What’s next? Coins? Forward people, forward!
    Thanks for being interesting.

he man get a life , ok you love your dog i can dig that but why do you have to talk about the mutt the whole time, is your life so empty

  11. stef Says:

i am now unsubscribing to american cliche due to your constant pathetic whinging and whining about muttley

  12. Lisa Says:

stef, are you taking the piss?!? You disgust me. Any pet is like part of your family, Mia is like a daughter to Scott. I hope to God you do not own a pet and never should!

Scott, Let us know how you are all getting on, we – your loyal fans do wish to know! Love to you all. xx

  13. Jared Says:

    Hey Scott,

I first want to say that I just started listening to your show, and I love it. With being an E-media Director (fancy title for tech guy that does everything from video to websites) I understand the effort needed to get your show where it is and finding the material to do it (I find blogs like Digg having good stuff too if your looking). Any rate, enough with the intro. I just heard your cast on Mia and first want to say sorry about that. I can tell that when you talk about money on the show your a little hesitant to ask for donations, which I understand, but remember there are people out there that want to help and would love to feel like they made a difference for you. I guess I say this because I could only donate very little so if I knew there was a campaign for this and more people were going to donate, I would support it. Also, when it comes down to a point that you need money, get a load of this site http://www.prosper.com. Its pretty interesting. Either way keep up the good work with your show. :)

  14. Scott Says:

    Hey There,

I appreciate everyone’s continued posting and emails. Your well-wishes have helped me get through the last few days.

Mia is doing a bit better. She is eating a bit and hasn’t thrown up since she came off IV at the vet on Wednesday. She stills seems a bit tired, but she could still be just recovering from the onslaught her body has endured. Overall, Kim and I are hopeful, but cautious. We’ll see how she does through the weekend. In about a week if she appears to be doing better then the vet will re-check her blood to see if the treatment for liver disease has helped wipe out either the infection or hepatitis they assume it to be.

Jared, I wanted to comment specifically on your post. I am in no way trying to figure out a way to ask for donations. My discussion of money was simply to illustrate how much we were struggling with how much money is too much and when has Mia had enough? She is like our child and in a perfect world we’d do whatever it takes to make her better. However, if the vet told us that her treatment would be $10,000 and she would get another year of life, do we do it? I absolutely hate to put a price on the love of my pet, but at some point you have to think about being financially responsible. I’m not sure if I am making my point or not…in a nutshell, I appreciate the fact that Jim donated some money to Mia’s cause – that’s why I mentioned it. It was a kind thing to do and I wanted to recognize it. Honestly, if you all want to do something good with your money this holiday season, then donate to a homeless shelter in your community or buy some under-privileged kids some toys for Christmas. Kim and I will be fine. Put your money where you can really make a difference.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

    -S

PS. Special wishes of love and happiness to you Stef for a wonderful holiday season.

  15. stef Says:

hey lisa, of course i have a dog but i treat him as a dog and he knows his place , unlike you , it is pathetic to see hollow and shallow humans who obviously have troubles making it in the real world, no wonder so many americans are in therapy . looking at your reaction you have confirmed this big time , thanks sister.hey scotty thanks for the mention happy holiday to you too.

  16. stef Says:

lisa , taking the piss ??????????do you think i am a dyalisis machine or what ???woof woof. hahahahahah .with regard to a pet being a part of the family this could be true maybe in kentucky no what i mean, lets keep it in the family hehehe!i do you like to lay doggy???

  17. Scott Says:

    Stef,

Treating him “as a dog” means not providing adequate medical care? Knowing “his place” means that you shouldn’t have any affection for him? Wow, you truly are an asset to the pet world.

As for who is shallow and hollow, I think you need to look in the mirror. How can Lisa’s (and anyone else’s) comments be considered hollow? It shows they empathize and care. You’ve obviously misunderstood the online community established here.

Oh, and as for making it in the real world… who’s the one slinging shit on a website hiding behind an anonymous email? Yeah, that screams “well adjusted” to me. The anonymity of the internet is nice for you isn’t it?

  18. heather Says:

I am wishing you well with your Mia! You all are in my thoughts and I know that you will find the means to take care of her without problem…

  19. David G. Says:

I’m glad stef has unsubscribed. I don’t like the fact that an asshole like that is listening to this show.

I hope Mia gets better soon, keep us updated.

    Scott,
I would like to extend my best wishes toward Mia. I know what it is like to have a dog that is a part of the family. Please keep us posted.

  21. Chris Says:

    Scott,

Just wanted to say I am glad Mia is doing better. I also would like to pass along coodos for the show. Your show seems to be about one man’s life and voice that hits to the core of so many people. For everyone who disagrees with your opinion there are hunreds who agree. With this snapshot of you life, you can see it repeated across the world from USA to China. If borders could come down and goverments desolve you would be left are individual thoughts and feelings which are very similar no matter were you are. Thanks for you show, your opinion and slice for life.

    Remember you are not alone

  22. Brent Says:

    Dude,
I hope you dog is ok. I fill for you, I would freak out if my dog Nibbles was going through this. Be strong Bro we are keeping a good thought for you and Mia.

    Happy Holidays,

Scott – as usual, I think you rock.

    Stef – you’re an ass.

  24. Greg Says:

    Hey Scott,

Really sorry to here about Mia, although i’ve never had a dog – my thoughts go out to you.

Secondly, love the show, listen to it every week, keep up the good work!

  25. Scott Says:

    Hey All,

Happy Monday. Hope you all had a great weekend. Kim and I stayed close to home going out for a few hours at a time to do some holiday shopping and grab a bite to eat. Mainly we wanted to be able to check in frequently on Mia.

She’s doing pretty well. I’d say that she about 95% back to her old self. She gets excited to see us and go for walks. She is mostly back to normal eating (and begging for table scraps). Later this week or early next we will be going back to the vet to have her blood re-checked to see if the treatment we’ve been doing for liver disease has been successful. It’s hard to get your hopes up, but I am optimistic.

I will keep you posted and update you more on tomorrow’s show. Thanks again for all your kind posts and emails. It truly has meant the world to Kim and I.

  26. Char Says:

My thoughts are with you while you await results & treatment options, Scott & Kim. The amount of energy needed to pull you through this is incredible, and only when you are confronted with a devastating situation, do you notice how much energy you lose.

I would make a comment about Steph, but I don’t think one is needed. If she were able to understand words with more than 2 syllables it would be worth my time. Perhaps a redneck radio station would be more her taste.

Keep up the good work, Scott & hang in there.

  27. Lisa Says:

    Hi Scott,

Really glad to hear Mia has improved, do let us know all the details on the show. I’m sure we all have our fingers crossed.

Mia the Wonder Dog will prevail all!!

    Love to you all ;-)

I’m still catching up on the shows…

but to comment on the pasta sauce in the new camcorder box…

A couple of xmas’s ago, we got a new toaster from my brother, that was sealed.

When we opened it a couple of days after Xmas, to our surprise, we found a used, old toaster!

We brought it back to Linens and Things and they took it back no problem…

But they did get scammed since someone put in their old toaster, put new clear tape on the box, and returned it.
