Viva La Fiesta!

This post could have been titled several things, such as “finding a place to live in Santa Barbara sucks” or “Sirius debut blows entire world away” or “why I want this work week to be over.” But, I settled on the above title because that embodies the spirit of how I’m feeling.

First, if you listen to my show, you heard me talk about Fiesta. Today is a big day, and even though the weather is currently crappy and rainy (highly unusual for Santa Barbara in August), I still plan on getting together with friends and having a great time. I’m sure that my monster hangover tomorrow will have me cursing today’s enthusiasm. We’ll see.

Second, Kim and I have been looking for a place to rent for the last week or so. For those not familiar, the rental market in Santa Barbara is unbelievable. To get a decent 2 bedroom apartment (we’re talking 800-1000 square feet) you are looking at $1900-$2500 per month depending on how nice the neighborhood is. That would be bad enough, but now throw in the fact that most places won’t accept dogs. That means for every 100 places listed for rent, only 1 or 2 of those accepts dogs. Every morning Kim and I have been getting up and scouring the local papers here, then logging in to craigslist to see what’s popped up. As soon as 8:00 AM rolls around we start calling to see if it’s available and when we can see it. We’ve probably called 45 places and looked at 10 in the last 4 days. The problem is that most are gone within an hour or two after they are listed and those that aren’t are there because they suck. We have two appointments today to look at places that we have REALLY high hopes for. I gues we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

Third, we killed on Sirius this week. Ok, so I have no idea if that’s really true, but the numbers do seem to be up a bit. I guess we’ll see how things pan out. If you came to this site after hearing the show on Sirius, then welcome. Make sure you post comments and subscribe to the show either by email or rss.

Finally, I am ready for this week to be over. Work was pretty typical, but the added stress of apartment hunting makes it hard to concentrate on work. Plus, it’s hard to sneak out during the day to go look at places, but I know that if we don’t the place will be gone. Hopefully by Tuesday’s show I’ll have some good news to report about us finding a place. Oh, and did I mention that we HAVE to find a place this month because we already signed an agreement to rent out our own condo starting in early September? If we’re homeless, can I give you a call and possibly stay on your couch?

Have a great weekend everyone.

This is the first time I’ve listened to the show, and darn it. I want more. I picked it up via I-Tunes, and I thought it was a live streaming station, alas I was wrong. Seeing as it seems to be a solo effort (atleast on the vocal talent side) I’ll let you off just this once.

Now get yourself a mic partner and add in internation quirky news, if you need a source, I’ll hunt around the UK for stuff. It’s the UK, there’s always crazy stuff happening.

Want proof? Did you hear the British Police force were crying out against “Resevoir Dogs” being turned into a video game. The film that portrays that a gang lifestyle is violent and has a very limited life expentancy and am I wrong in thinking that only two or three “good” guys die in that film? Three I think, security guard, undercover cop and the cop hostage. More gangsters died in that story then innocent people, and even fewer people have gone on a rampage in real life after playing a computer game.

Here’s the link for the professional take. They also have a dig at the psychological effects of playing violent games. I’m sure there are more interesting things to do, but few people have got caught in cross fire or been bottled in a drunken brawl while sitting at home playing over the net. Or am I just making that up?

Long post, sorry. It was a great show and finally you sound nothing like you should after seeing that photograph on the banner though.

i didn’t know i could download the past episodes. i should start downloading them tomorrow!

actually, what i so like about this show is that it’s ‘american radio’. i live in korea and haven’t really got a chance to listen to much english since season 6 of gilmore girls has ended.

anyways, i really love your show, and hope you find a nice house that accept dogs, have a nice week!

  7. Scott Says:

    Olga,

I’d be happy to give you my opinion, but “Russian” is such a broad term. Do you mean Russian people? Russian language? Russia the country?

I can tell you that am very fascinated by all the cold war stuff up to the late 1980’s. It is amazing what politicians were able to do to convince U.S. citizens that Russians were evil, as I’m sure that the Russian gov’t did about the U.S. Now after the fall of the Soviet empire and the advent of the internet, both countries can see that it was nothing more than political propaganda.

Thanks for listening to the show!
