My god, the heat. It has been so uncomfortable at my house for the last week, I just want to die. We don’t have an air conditioner…hardly anyone does where we live because it’s not usually like this. If we weren’t moving out of our place in the coming weeks, I’d have been first in line at Home Depot begging for an AC unit. I know that its been really hot around the rest of the country (and world) as well. How can we not realize that the planet is pissed off at us? This is not normal and I fear that it’s only going to get worse as time passes if we (as a global entity) don’t change our ways.

In other news, I am so excited to announce that American Cliche will be carried every Wednesday on Sirius Satellite channel 102 at 4:30 PM PT (7:30 PM ET) starting August 2nd. It blow me away that in a little over a year’s time the show has gone from nothing to now being featured on national radio. Thank you all for supporting the show and helping to make this happen!

Here’s what else I mentioned on the show:

  • Can Talking Too Much on the Show Get You in Trouble with Your Family?
  • Chinese Twin Has Mole Grafted to Her Face
  • One Man’s Opinion
  • Jockey Head Butts His Horse
  • Listener Rant of the Week: Jim in Ohio
  • Show Sponsored by Earthlink & Shell

    Two things….

    1) I love the show. I found it on the Windows’ Media Player (Radio Tuner) and now it is part of my Wednesday morning ritual. I cannot possibly say enough good things about the show and I wish that it was daily.

    2) I cannot disagree with you more on your assessment of Clerks 2. My wife and I both also grew up in the Kevin Smith generation. I was a senior in high school when Clerks hit the scene (no pun intended.) We tried to stomach our way through this movie, but we ended up leaving after an hour (through a mutual decision.) The writing to the movie was so lazy and the characters were mearly caricatures. It was truely sad to see that Kevin put this out, especially when you consider that the only other film he has offered us in the last few years was Jersay Girl. He officially dropped off of my list of writer/directiors that I will automatically partronize no matter what they come out with.

Have a great day and keep up the great work with the show.

    Hey Jim,

I liked your rants about the movies…couldn’t agree more!

I touched upon it awhile back:

Great show! I love Bill Janovitz. I loved Buffalo Tom. You playing that song sure put me in a good mood this morning since yesterday was a shitty day at work! Thanks!

Perhaps its the 20ish-year-old love of “farts and dicks”, but I found Clerks 2 vulgarsicksweet funny. Although it doesn’t compare to Smith’s other films (one lady’s opinion), I found it disgustingly entertaining and definately worth checking out…yet be prepared to sit through 15 minutes of commercials for cars and speakers. Lame. Perhaps this is a diluted recollection, but before theatre admission fees sky rocketed, was there not less commercials? Let me rephase that- were there ANY commercials? There was always the “get your popcorn” and the odd theatre pitch, but other than that, it was bonified previews followed by movie. I suppose is a brilliant tactic- theatre ads are hard to ignore. They are louder, larger and more irritiating. I hate them.

again, here i go…nothing to do with the recent show, however, cnn.com reports to me today that Andrea “i can drown my kids” Yates is NOT GUILTY!! WTF ohhh, by the reason of insanity of course. lets not forget that. she’s a crazy bitch that drowns her kids, but that means she’s innocent of killing her kids. If SHE isn’t guilty of doing it, then who is, can i ask that. People are worried about HER state of mind, her defense team want HER to be around HER family, well guess what, she KILLED 5 members of them, she’s crazy, why is it a good idea to let people around her, sane or not. How F’d up is our justice system that this happens.

  6. Kerry Says:

dude, i love your show. this is the first one i’ve heard, but im lessioning to the others right now.

  7. Mike Says:

Let me start saying I am really becoming a big fan of your show I am very happy for you for your success as you are a talented and entertainning host. I just had a couple of things to say –
Clerks 2, I loved it!! I thought it was Kevin Smith’s funniest and most entertaining movie yet. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I saw it, especially during the donkey show. To the guy who bashed it (the first comment on the list) you are obviously too easily offended and by walking out of the theatre you missed the point of the movie which ended up being very heartfelt and kind.

As for the guy who head-butted a horse, that’s fucking ridiculous. I was for the soccer head-butt, in fact I found it entertainning. As for this midget wanna be athlete striking his animal, what the fuck is wrong with him? It’s one thing to slap a dog on it ass for taking a shit on the rug, but it’s another thing to strike an animal with a helmet for no justifiable reason. This guy should be kicked out of the “sport” and in my opinion be hit over the head in the same manner. Personnally I think he deserves a beating and yes I do condone violence in certain situations.

Lastly, how is horse racing not considered animal abuse?

  8. Melissa M Says:

horse racing considered horse abuse? can you please explain this a bit more? weren’t these the same animals that go saddled up and ridden around on until oh the INVENTION OF CARS…. have you seen how these horses are treated, they live a better life than the most of us. I’m not speaking for ALL stabled horses, but come on…maybe i’m missing something here.

  9. Scott Says:

    Hey Peeps,

Thanks for taking the time to post. I love it.

Clerks 2: I can totally understand the difference of opinion on that. I think even Kevin Smith fans are mixed about it. Liek I said, if you weren’t already a disciple of Smith, then this film wasn’t gonna convert ya. I certainly don’t think it was bad enough to walk out on…I don’t know that I’ve ever walked out of a movie before.

Yates: Yeah, wow. Incomprehensible that someone can murder 5 children and somehow avoid prison. From what I understand if she gets a clean psych eval she could be free and on the street in a matter of months. Is that really true?

Bill Janovitz/Buffalo Tom: Really dig the stuff as well. That whole period of music in the mid-90’s in the Boston scene just is a really nostalgic thing for Brian and I. We went to so many shows on Landsdown Street and at the Paradise. FNX Best Music Poll show anyone?

Thanks again to everyone for posting. Tell your friends!

    -Scott

In defense of my horse racing being considered animal abuse read this – http://www.helpinganimals.com/travel_attractions_horseracing.asp

  11. Melissa M Says:

Mike…I stand corrected. I’ve obviously been misinformed. I don’t necessiarly think “racing” them is wrong. however sending them to the slaughterhouse for losing is something different.

  12. Mike Says:

Melissa…it’s cool, i appreciate that fact that you seem to an open minded person when it comes to other opinions….

  13. Andres Says:

    Hi Brian,

I wanted to comment on something you said when talking about the Amazon cock-fight issue.

You said that High-Times was not bad because it was a crime-less thing. I greatly disagree. Unfortunately most people in the world are shielded from the `true war` against drugs in Latin America. A lot of people die, children are left homeless and women are raped and entire families are forced to work to grow these plants that will then be socially consumed at a party, or someone’s lounge in other countries.

I live in California and I was very sad when I saw the magazine in a newstand …. it is as if I was to see a cover article on beheadings!
(Am I being to drastic? I know I am not.)

Please keep the good work with the show. Let’s say no to drugs; no to firing a bullet or rocket; no to child abuse …..

  14. Scott Says:

Actually Andres, it was Me (Scott) not Brian that talked about this. :)

Seriously though, comparing smoking marijauna to beheadings? That seems like a very big stretch to me.

  15. Andres Says:

    Scott,

It was intentional, and I know it sounds horrible to even think of that; but seriously, the amount of people that die or live their lives suffering in Latin America and other regions of the world, in order to produce drugs is a horrible fact.

Please…, I intend to insert a serious thought into the matter, but by no means want to turn the great conversation to this subject. Let’s keep it in mind, say no to drugs – many families and I will greatly appreciate it. : )

  16. Mike Says:

Scott…Just thought I would let you know your site got a mention on Newaskew.com (one of Kevin Smith’s websites) for your talking about Clerks 2…

  17. Scott Says:

Holy shit dude! You have no idea how excited I am right now. As I mentioned in the show, Kevin defined my college/post college years. I am such a fan and to have my piddly little show mentioned on Newsaskiew.com is mindblowing.

    Damn, this made my day!

  18. Kevin in Canada Says:

Just wanted to add to Jim’s rant about theatre advertisement. More than the preamble to shows, I find the most annoying aspect of movies these days to be the shameless product placements. I understand that in order for films to be realistic you must show actual products, but it is WAY too much lately. Once you are looking for it, it is almost unbearable to watch anything coming out of Hollywood.

Not only is it brutal in the movies, even the trailers are filled with advertising; in fact, for recent summer blockbusters (Starwars, Superman etc.) the production companies often do most of their advertising through Pepsi, KFC, Taco Bell etc.

For more information on this, I suggest the documentary “Behind the Screens: Hollywood Goes Hypercommercial,” Producer/Director Matt Soar, 2002.

Anyway, Keep up the good work.
    Kevin

  19. Tyler Says:

    Regarding Andres comment…

If the government would accept marijuana alot of those problems wouldn’t exist… Bye selling and growing its own pot, they would create : more jobs, more tax dollars, less crimes, less blockage in the american court system, grow op’s would no longer fund “gangs” and criminals, and not only that… the pot that was being put out there on the “market” could be monitord and controlled…. this means no windex and pinsol in Johnny’s stash… The are lots of positives in there. Anyway, its 4:50am, and I am pretty sure I will be embarassed to find this drunkin rant on here wed’s morning….

  20. Melissa M Says:

I think one of THE most annoying advertisments was…Million Dollar Baby. There sits a bus with The Donalds face on it, adverstising The Apprentice. I’m watching a movie, and its advertising a REAL LIFE tv show for Donald Trump…seriously. I would have much rather watched them choke down the Pepsi’s, its much less desperate looking.

  21. Chris Says:

    Two things today.

First regarding High Times. I’d just like to say that so much of the herb smoked in the USA especially on the west coast is produced locally or in Canada. Most respectable stoners wouldn’t think of smoking the crap that comes from South America.

Second, Scott I have to disagree about the headbutting horse thing as animal abuse. The horse bucked him off. And as such he must prove to the horse that he is the horse’s master. If you’ve spent much time around horses, that’s very much the way it works. A horse bucks you off so you whack it good and then get back on the horse and continue riding it. Remember a horse is a big animal that can kill a human. In order to get it to take notice of you as being the master you need to really whack it quite hard. It’s just a fact of horse training.

  22. Scott Says:

If it’s a part of horse training, then why was this jockey disciplined? I haven’t read anywheer that this was “the way it works.” I may not have spent much time around horses, but I have spent significant time around animals and head-butting, kicking, punching, smacking etc, is not ever the correct way to teach an animal anything.

    -S

  23. Chris Says:

Sorry gotta follow up with the horse thing one last time, since the verdict came down recently. The jockey was suspended for one day and I quote:

“so the penalty of one day is consistent with a jockey who was also given one day for throwing his whip at a horse.”

In case you didn’t read that correctly throwing your whip at the horse will also get you a one day suspension. But whipping the horse till your exhausted, that’s OK. I mean it is a horse whip, what else would you use it for.

In the same story they also mention that because the horse wasn’t injured that it wasn’t abuse. I don’t necessarily agree with that definition of abuse but I find it interesting nonetheless.
