American Cliche - #54
This week I celebrate the one year anniversary of American Cliche. On one hand it seems like the year has flown by…on the other, I can’t believe how different the early shows sound from the stuff now. If you were around then, you know what I mean. If not, then you’ll have to take my word for it. Maybe someday I’ll go into the archives and put up the old shows. For now though, they stay tucked away.
This week:
- My Trip to Pittsburgh
- Thanks to Mary at Windows Media
- Cleaning Product Used as Sugar
- One Man’s Opinion
- This Show Sponsored by Shell Gas & Earthlink
- Parking Lot Rage Down Under
- Mighty Minute (More Like the Mighty Three Minutes)
- America, Fuck Yeah: John Bolton Says “Civilian Deaths Not Same as Terror Victims”
- Munk – I Am (Molly’s Theme)
- Digg Me at PodShow+

Amen Brother! Side note: I heard that airlines are planning to start advertising on in-flight barf bags. I didn’t realize that airplane motion sickness was such a pressing issue nowadays, given that most people fly nausea-free. I am anxious to see the placement of advertisements. Do you think it will be a Nissan ad, taunting that motion sick person that he/she should have drove? Tums, perhaps? Or possibly something really gross like KD. Nothing like thinking about processed cheese powder when you are throwing up into a navy and orange bag with strangers staring at you because you are a grown person throwing up over turbulance. Oh- the possibilities.

Hi All,
If you got up early this morning (or stayed up late, depending on where in the world you are), you may have seen the “revised” version of the site. Some little mischief maker decided to have a little fun with the website by hacking in and changing the most recent post. Let’s just say it was a recurring theme of my love of male genitalia…who knew I was so into the penis. Anyway, thanks to Brian for spotting it early and fixing it.

who sits and stares at eggs? I buy them, check them to make sure they are not broken, close the box and don’t see them again until i need to crack it open. Then and only then, do i grab it and crack it, i never inspect it. I just wish i could have been a fly on the wall in that pitch….”I’ve got it….let’s advertise on eggs!! That’s right…eggs!! everyone has them, even most of the vegetarians…it’s a for sure way into most every home…” I just don’t see how this could work. Sure it will be talked about for a brief moment in time, but am i going to tune into a show because i saw it on my egg…hell no. The shows they are advertising appear to be those that are already being watched anyways. If you want people to watch your show more, make it worth watching, maybe some rookie producer should run that by the head honchos. Spend the extra money on better writers. I’m not saying all the shows are bad, but the majority are cookie cutter shows, being thrown out to the public to see which one flies.
But if you HAVE to be intrusive and refuse to make better TV, put it on the outside of a cereal box, i actually leave the box out and look at that while i’m eating it, i don’t leave the egg carton out. What’s next HBO spagetti-o’s or maybe some feminine hygenine product will get ahold of a tuna can and advertise there…where’s it going to stop.
Let’s get a grip, if you have to FORCE people to look at your product/show by putting it on their food, maybe it isn’t worth seeing.

Love your new segment of American Fuck You, I thing it’s really important to mention this tings. But I would expect more reaction from your listeners and all I see is comments on how they really get annoyed by advertising in eggs or how they think it’s not fare for you to critized a stupid futbol player. What’s wrong with this picture?
This government officials are the coldest, uneducated, unscrupulous people that you can find, they only care about power, petroleum for them selves and fuck every body else. (even the American people).
So I think we should be more outrage by this. Sadly I think this is only the reflection of people being more and more entertain by a cell phone game or cell phone conversation, or distracted even in your breakfast with the information of a new tv show than rater the news. I now it’s not nice waking up and knowing that the world its becoming an ugly place, but a bunch of rich guys are messing everything and we are going to let it go, because we got a call.

I sent a voicemail to Scott about that

@Scott
I thought you wrote that being sarcastic.

John Bolton hardly represents the citizens of the United States. He is simply a mouthpiece for our beloved dictator at heart George W.
I think Scott actually missed the underlying point behind what John Bolton said. It doesn’t actually have to do with the victims, because frankly I don’t think they are so concerned with victims whether they be friend or foe. I think his real point here is that the USA is a blind supporter of Israel. Anything that Israel does is completely correct and honest and fully supported, whereas anything done against Israel is completely immoral, dishonest and terroristic.
I’m sad to say but I think that if Israel started launching nukes around the middle east the US would back them up with the all too common war against terror rhetoric.

to Billy Cea:
I think you don’t understand excectly what is the situation in the Middle east: the fact is that about six years ago Israel went out (withdraw) from the Security zone in South Lebanon. Israel did it for one reasn: effort to pease. Since then there is no reason to attak Israel from SL in this border. Any attak from this border is unfair and the only answer is to attack back and to kill as much terrorists as we can. Israel has a duty to bring back home it’s soldiers, captured by terrorists’ group in SL eight days ago. Until then we have a support from US which in general support every democracy government in the World. Don’t forget: Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East and an American branch in this region.
Yours: Shay, Netania. Israel.

I was absolutely pissed about the egg advertising idea – I seriously hope this does not happen. I completely agree with you, when will this end, this is such bs! I’d have to say we need some stricter advertising laws in this country but something tells me big business will never let that happen.
July 20th, 2006 at 1:59 pm
Advertising is such a funny thing. It’s an evil necessity of the world. The more advertising companies pump out, the more consumers ignore it.
I consider myself an “informed” consumer. I go out and find the information on the brands/products I am interested in. I’m proactive and feel that I have a full understanding of what is out there and what it can or can’t do for me.
I don’t watch commercials on TV, don’t listen to commercials on radio, don’t look at ads in newspapers or magazines. I block most banner ads on the web, and the ones that do come through, I NEVER click through. Companies HATE me because their advertising dollar does not reach me. it is a waste to them. They should instead just take it off the price and give it to me that way!
So in the end, I guess I’ve done this to myself…hence now they figure hey, maybe I can get on his food. The guy HAS to eat

to Shea:
I understand Israel’s desire and responsibility to retrieve the two soldiers taken hostage by Hezbollah. Hezbollah provacatively attacked an Israeli military outpost. I do feel that the response by Israel and it’s subsequent acceptance by the US government is unacceptable. Israel has been targeting civilian targets and infrastructure in Lebanon as a result massive suffering and massive civilian casualties have occurred. Attacking these civilian targets is hardly warranted. Attacking military targets is understandable and massive terrorist casualties would be acceptable, but that’s not the case. Attacking civilians is not an acceptable way of responding to terrorist attacks and this is where Israel is wrong and why the response from the US government is also wrong.

hi there..
i absolutely love the show..especially through a rough day, gives me a great laugh..i listen every week and i’m a subscriber through itunes..
i must say..when i heard about the cell phone rant..i completely agreed with it..
i’m 16, and i got a cell phone for my birthday at 13..and when i look back on it, i really didn’t need it..but now, i’m glad i have it..
but yes..i do see 11 and 12 year olds around with motorola camera phones with jewels on them, video recorder, rap music as their ringtone, running up the bill, and it amazes me how much parents give in to their children nowadays..
i have an old nokia, no camera, i have the basic obsolete ringtones, not even voice mail..just a phone so i can check in with parents, check in with friends, and my phone bill is never sky high..
it’s not like they drive or roam from one place to another..their parents bring them everywhere..why do they need a phone?..and yeah, i agree that parents need to keep track of their children and a cell phone is somewhat less stressful..but the parents need to be just a little more concerned and involved with the child..
children that age are just growing up way too fast..and parents need to be a little more concerned about where they’re going and who they’re with instead of just giving them a cell phone and giving the kid too much freedom..
