American Cliche - #50
I can’t believe we made it this far – show #50! When I hit the record for the first time last year I couldn’t have imagined how much the show would have grown. It seems like every week another new and exciting opportunity pops up. This week is no exception. First, I found out that the show has been nominated for a Podcast Peer Award for “Best Art & Entertainment” Podcast, and then I learned just this morning that this episode will be carried on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 102, as part of Adam Curry’s Podshow.
Thank you all for your support, your feedback, and your interest and encouragement in my work. You coming back each week is what keeps me going. Additionally, I would be remiss without thanking my two partners in crime: Brian & Jason. Brian & I have known each other for a long long time. Our friendship transcends far beyond this show and I know we’ll be 80 years old someday talking about what a hoot this show was to do. Even though I have never met Jason, I consider him a friend. He is so damn talented and the show would be sorely lacking without his comedic genius.
I guess I should wrap up this mushy shit huh? Seriously, thanks for sticking around. I am on cloud nine.

Congrats on #50. I was interested in the electric shock segment. I’m really hoping to do segments on disability issues on my Podcast some day. My wife has Cerebral Palsy and has become well known for fighting problems in the attendant care industry in Ontario, but nothing as serious as the electric shock thing.
One other thing I found interesting is this interest in plasma TVs. From what I hear, the great picture doesn’t last long enough to get your money’s worth, so if people get a plasma, watch “Finding Nemo” as many times as possible because it won’t be looking that great 3-5 years from now. Maybe they’ve improved the technology, but I haven’t heard about any major improvements.

OK, I was listening to the “One Man’s Opinion” and could not help but laugh. I completely agree with letting people choose to wear their seatbelts. I always wear mine and could NEVER imagine not wearing one; however, most people get mad at me when I say we should let the stupid people kill themselves off so that there is more room for the rest of us. I live in New York State and we waste HUGE amounts of money enforcing the seat belt laws. There is a huge budget gap and this is how we choose to waste our money. Anyway, do other states not require seat belts for adults? I believe we only require them for adults in the front seats and for kids everywhere. As for dogs, I just wish we would require people to NOT drive with their dogs on their laps. I have seen a ton of people almost get into accidents because Fluffy is running around the car.
As for Net Neutrality, is there any other correct choice? My only concern is that we need to keep the FCC out of the Internet. If they get their dirty tentacles into the Net it will do just as much harm to free speech as if the mega corporations continue to dominate. If we need a body to oversee then we should us some division of the UN, ICANN, or some other INTERNATIONAL body.
They are actually shocking the disabled for bad behavior? Thanks for bringing that to my attention I had no idea and it makes me sick.

Oh and Jason it has been required to wear seatbelts in Australia for years. It is a good idea to inforce safety for passengers and kids. All this liberatarian stuff is BS. Like not wearing helmets. Unfortunately there are idiots out there and these laws help them idiots. I think the laws are a good idea along with helmet laws here.

Congrats on show 50 it was awesome. Just dropping by to answer Jasons or Brian’s question on how to get the acute above the e in Cliche (I can’t remember who asked it). I’m guessing they are running some sort of windows so if they do this:
Click Start
Move to Programs
Move to Accessories
Move to Sysem tools
Click on Character Map
Check the Advanced View box
Search for “Latin Small e with acute”
click on the e and press copy.
Then just paste it where you need it. Hope that helps…

There are cheaper Plasmas out there that are great. I bought the Vizio 42inch plasma for $1600. I should get could use of it for 6 to 8 years with all the tv I watch and that isn’t that expensive.

I can’t remember exactly, but that school that did the electric shock thing must have been in the USA right? Putting an electric shock collar on your dog these days is enough to get you sent to prison these days, it’s unfathomable to imagine that electrocuting kids is somehow legal.

I might of missed this… but what happened to Kim on show #50? I would probably be nervous too! You mentioned any questions for her if she were to come on the air…. My question is (kinda personal): Are you two planning on kids soon?
I know you talk about your wonder dog… we have two as well. My hubby and I are in our late twenties and our dogs were our kids as well too. Last July though, we had our first baby, a boy!, and our world has changed drastically. A baby is the most wonderful thing ever… you see the world in a whole new light. Anyways, just wondering if that was in your plans… My hubby and I have been together eight years as well.

You are perceptive. In fact I didn’t receive many questions at all about where Kim was on show 50. I don’t know how to interpret that.
Basically it came to her saying she would do it if I really wanted her to, but it’s not something that she immediately felt comfortable with. She said that she would feel too much pressure to be “funyy” and “witty” and if she wasn’t it would sink the show. I tried to tell her that she would be great and everyone would love her, but she can be stubborn.
As for the question about kids, we are planning on them, maybe in the next couple years. Right now we’re just very focused on our careers and getting our lives settled, then we’ll have children.
