This was one of those weeks that just seemed to go by without anything noteworthy really happening. I like to pretend I have some sort of exciting life, but this week illustrates that I am as mundane as they come. Kim worked most of this past weekend, so I was flying solo. At least I got a chance to hang out with Mia the Wonderdog and catch up on my
DVR ‘d shows. Oh, and I even managed to drag my sloth-like self off the couch to do a show:
- Letter from Iran
- Pickled Corpse Flavored Rum
- Dirtbag of the Week: Julie E. Hunt
- Sex Toys = Tax Deductable?
- Listener Rant of the Week: Francesca & Isis
- Mighty Minute
- Five Most Glamorous Jobs
- Beth Thornley – Mr. Lovely

In regards to the “letter to Iran”:
Of course Bush isn’t going to respond. He’s not interested in a peaceful outcome. It’s called the ‘military industrial complex’ meets ‘the crazies’. The media will villify the Iranian president until we can justify attacking Iran, which is pure insanity. Our so called leaders have already decided to use mini-nukes. It’s too bad Americans are asleep at the switch, they don’t even realize the last elections (2004) were rigged. And in case you haven’t figured it out, that means we live in a dictatorship. To most people, it’s 8th grade politics, republican vs. democrat. They treat these parties as sports teams, not bothering to notice the playing field is shit and blood. Too bad the freakin Republicans haven’t figured out that Bush isn’t really a Republican and doesn’t care about the American people. It’s the death of democracy and it doesn’t matter who you voted for, if the elections are irregular, everyone looses. Watch in horror as we test a ‘super bomb’ in Nevada on June 2nd 2006. They’ll tell you it’s conventional and when the geiger counters go off, they’ll claim it’s residue ‘kick up’ off the desert floor from previous tests years ago. Figure it out. Impeach this soul-less motherfucker!

I think its important not to forget that to go forward and make a positive change in this world (although it may be a small one and may be one that may show up in our children’s upbringing), we cannot judge groups of people for what a single person is responsible for. Whether it’s looking at teenagers as a whole and thinking they are a lower class of society because of some punks in the neighborhood or because you had a run in a some black person a store and now you hate all black people or holding all white people accountable for slavery hundreds of years past the end of slavery. Just listen to yourself (and by “yourself” I do mean anyone of us) talk and we can hear examples of this type of behavior, whether it be subtle or obvious. It’s counterproductive either way you look at it. Racism, Ageism, Hate…its all really ignorance in one form or another. We cannot hold an ENTIRE group of people responsible for someone else’s actions.

Hi
you said you wanted to hear back from some college students…i would happen to be one. I am 22 and i’m going to “school” in paris, france. sorry just didnt want to be confused with paris, texas. i am originally from louisiana. i like listening to your podcast to sort of keep abreast of some of the news back home. You were asking about dream jobs. well, being an art student, i could say it would be lovely to have a patron. but i have recently decided it is much more practical to have a normal job and do what one loves on the side. so, i think if i could have my dream job, it would be working as a consultant for Christy’s or Soethby’s auction houses. i am infact thinking of changing my major to art history, to try and make this “dream job” possible. we’ll see, it does no good to worry too much. thanks for reading my post,
elaine
aka cocofifi
ps. i liked the story on the dead man pickled in rum.

Wow, you guys have been coming out of the woodwork this week with thoughts on pretty much everything in this week’s show. As you can see above, we have a comments on dream jobs and my piece on teenagers. However, the biggest response thus far has been emails to me about the Iran letter. Overwhelmingly the emails I’ve received have been in basic agreement with my position. Some have agreed with me to a certain extent, but took the opportunity to bash the Bush administration in general. In fact, so far only one person has chastised me for my position.
I have responded to everyone that has written expressing my hope that they will post their email here so that we may have a discussion about anything and everything that’s on your collective minds.
Thanks to you all for your contributions and for being a part of the show. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you letting me into your lives for 30 minutes each week.
Best,
Scott

With that said Scott here is my addition about the Iran situation and about the situation in the Middle East. I agree wholheartedly on your position on the Iran letter. This letter indicates a definative shift in the thinking of Iran and how they have chosen to go about diplomany and we would be fools to just dismiss it as we did. I’m a currently junior in college and have devoted my education to studying the Middle East. About a year ago I returned from a year in Iraq as part of the United States Army which led me to believe that the US policy toward the Middle East is flawed. One of the largest problems is the misunderstandings that can and will happen between two very different cultures. However, for the most part these misunderstandings can be overcome by opening up a book or learning from intelligent people. The current administration seems unwilling to do so. Iran is just the most recent example.
Normally I would be encouraged by a nation that wishes to defuse nuclear tensions, which Iran seems to be willing to do. However, the United States almost seems dead set on some sort of reaction to Iran, regardless of their willingness to talk (déjà vu). It is really a shame that America, and Americans, doesn’t seem to get it. We see only our interests with little regard to the events happening in the greater Middle East, or the world for that matter. Let’s take the issue of Palestine for example. The US is focused on ONE thing, Hamas. We could care less about what our “ally” (Israel) has been doing while they have been occupiers of the Palestinians. Furthermore, we could care less how the Middle East views our alliance with Israel. If we were truly serious about peace in the Middle East we would reevaluate our alliances and commitments in the Middle East and take into account what is actually going on in the Middle East, not just what we believe is going on. Maybe I’m just a disillusioned soldier…

I just have a little addition to the Mighty Minute’s list of Google “I’m feeling lucky” results. Try it with the word failure. I’ll let it be a surprise, but I’m pretty sure you’ll agree with the results.
Love the show! I listen every week.

My gosh this is a nightmare coming true. Another Bush, another eight years in the White House. The really scary part is that 2008 probably won’t be his year, but 2012 or even 2016 most probably could be. The Bushies and his cronies have the resources and the pull in Washington to make it happen, and if it does we’ll all be screwed.
Jeb for President
Say it ain’t so, I’d like to have faith in the American people to make the right decision, but these days I’m not so sure.
Peace,
Chris

I just found your broadcast tonight online while looking through talk radio shows. I wanted talk but not something so drab and mundane. Great show, loved the thought put in to it. I just wanted to comment on dream career or something along the lines of that. Mines a Librarian. Not a school librarian but a public librarian. This might not sound great to some people and so help me if I hear another crack about the dewey decimal system I’m going to scream. Anyways, I feel that librarians do amazing work and there is so much more to it than shelving and checking out books.
Thanks for your ear!

Jason and I back in October joined back up with our library and I was a little bummed to find out the out “librarians” just are there anymore. i remember going to the middle and asking the woman where to find something because i just couldn’t figure out the damned dewey decimal system to save my soul and she’d walk me over to it, because she knew the place like the back of her hand. She has all the knowledge in the world. it was like she had read a little excerpt out of every book in the joint. Nowadays, the library is full of computer check out systems, computer driven methods of finding books, you can go into the library and out without speaking a word to anyone. Libraries are losing the charm they once had.

I guess you could say it was your lucky wee Scot ( and hopefully it is!) but yeah I have told my friends about your show so no pressure but your gonna have alot more listeners. One of my friends said he downloaded one of your podcast’s via iTunes and he realy likes it thinks your realy funny and both him and I have made a promise together saying that we are going to go to college to do radio and what i’m trying to say is that we think your realy cool in the way that you do things and we wish more disc jockey and pod jockeys ( A.K.A. PJ’s) and VJ’s were more laid back in their approach to doing their job. Your show is called American Cliche but that is just the opposite of what you do on the show, you keep it real and it’s nothing you realy have to get into I just like to sit back and listen to you talk about shit that i’ll probly forget in a week or two that may sound like an insult but realy I think it’s what us teens want is to be able to just not think for a little while and just listen to you saying whatever. i know i kinda wasted moments of your life you’ll never get back but Just wanted to tell you that your show is tottaly awsome (speaking for everyone) thanks man

I may change my mind since your website popped up some ads, plus you all guys support “your troops” and promoye that kind of decals.
If president Bush feels so strong to bother other nations walking by force inside the neightbor’s door, violating international laws, I will delete your website from my blog.
I am not american but I am offended for the White House decisions including your Governator. I’d been lotta times in Southern CAlifornia. I has nothing to do to it’s beautiful people.
Scott, your microphone pops a lot, get an anti pop screen.
May 14th, 2006 at 10:51 pm

May 14th, 2006 at 10:53 pm
Typo sorry my friend in college not I go to college I’m only 15
May 15th, 2006 at 8:02 am
Roger,
Have you actually listened to the show? First, my site does not have pop-up ads. It has Google ads at the top of the page. Those are randomly generated based on key words on my site. I think if you listen to any of my shows you would know that I don’t support Bush in any way shape of form.
I certainly welcome your posts on the site, but at least listen to my show and understand what I’m about before you spew opinions that simply aren’t true.

ps…my mic pops a lot?
May 15th, 2006 at 8:04 am
we support “our troops” because they fight and have fought for the very freedom we have today. Whether we believe in the war that is being fought or the President that won’t let the war go, these troops are our brothers, sisters, motherss and fathers. You don’t have to be an “American” to support them coming home safe to their families.
May 16th, 2006 at 2:08 am
well, Melissa I am sorry to tell you that United States is not a freedom land. Many of my friends, US citizens are bothered ans scrutinizzed for racial reasons. The whole world does not belong to US as GWB and maybe you are thinking.
Best wishes.
Sorry, Scott you are wright. I listened you radio station looped every day. And you should be not so close to the microphone or get an anti pop screen to have a better quality radio station.
That’s my opinion.
Anyway, congratulations for your efforts. I had a good time listening the radio station… I apreciate your good work. I just suggest some improvements, but you can ignore them.
Regards
Remember Frank Zappa said: “Have I offended someone ?
May 16th, 2006 at 8:28 am
Roger, if you are TRYING to offend someone, you might want to go elsewhere to do so. You’re in the wrong place.
America IS a place of many freedoms as well a place of many things that I am not proud of. And if read some of post in this VERY string you would of have seen that I touched on racism. Anywhere you go, there are people that are bothered and scrutized for many different reasons, this not the fault of one specific president, this is the result of hundred of years of ignorance that cannot be fixed in a small amont of time.
Scott does a wonderful job on the show that he produces every week. No one else hears popping, maybe you should get new speakers!
May 16th, 2006 at 10:33 am
I am sorry that the truth or or “my opinion” offended you.
Listen the radio station with headphones. I just wanted to improve thse sound quelity but keep it your way, who cares if you don’t?
I am a radio man, as well as Scott.
Melissa. I am sorry that you were offended. But you offend me to kick me off from here,a public place.
Let’s talk about easy things and be good partners.
I am just a listener and a commenter, please opn your mind a bit more.
and visit http://www.whatreallyhappened.com if you think you’re in heaven.
May 16th, 2006 at 10:45 am
Roger,
I do not want to speak for Melissa, but I think what she was saying is if you keep coming to this site just to spout negativity, then why bother?
I will not delete your comments, as it is my hope to give anyone a voice on this site, but I would suggest that you think about why you are posting. Most of the people here are interested in having a productive discussion about issues, not just stirring up shit.
As for the audio quality of my show, you are the first person out of the 30,000 or so that listen to each episode that has mentioned any deficiency in audio quality. I can say with pure objectivity that microphone popping is not a problem on my show. If it is for you, then I suggest you get new headphones as they are the cause.
We can argue about this stuff until we’re blue in the face but parroting back the same two points that you seem to be stuck on (1) The United States sucks and (2) the audio quality of my show needs improvement isn’t getting anyone anywhere.
Melissa, thanks for the kind words about the show. It was sweet.
