Not the least of which is the little detail about President Bush sidestepping the draft. Yes, the men and women serving are not conscripts this is true but times have changed. Being the brother of a police officer I'm no stranger to the "You signed up for it" paradigm. However, when one of them gets shot and killed it doesn't hurt any less. These people are still "signing up" for a very honored and coureageous line of duty. And as far as the Iraqi people, we are not sending people over to kill them. The US forces were put in place to remove the current regime and stop THEM from killing innocent people...which is what they did. When I wrote this segment I tried to keep personal politics out of it and focus on, what I thought, was most important. I actually even debated doing at all for this reason. I'm not trying to stir up anything...I just think that we sometimes need reminders of how good we have it. --Jason Hey Guys,

I'd like to respond to Kirby. As an Air Force Veteran I think can safely speak on this topic. Not everyone signs up have a bullet put through their head for their Commander in Chief. I signed up in a time where there was not a war going on, I just wanted to serve my country, PERIOD. I wasn't necessarily saying, HEY PREZ, give me my rifle, and ship me off to a war that I know nothing about, and let me hide in the sand hoping I don't die today. On the flip side, I knew before signing my life away that it WAS a possibility that I could be called away to do just that. Most of these MEN and WOMEN just want to serve their country just like their mothers, fathers, grandfathers, brothers, sisters, and so on did, they feel its their duty, just like others feel they HAVE to go to college to be something. Some people are born with a sense of pride that others aren't. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone and saying "shame on you for not serving your country", however I am saying, don't point your finger and say "you signed up for this" or "you are getting what you deserve". Who really asks for a bullet in the noggin or a missing leg? Regardless of the reason for the war or the Commander in Chief of the war, these men and women are being killed and being heros for all of us that are sitting at are desks and doing our day to day jobs, most of us forgetting that they are even over there. You wouldn't forget about YOUR child if they were over there, regardless of whose decision it was for them to go. Support something, even if it's just bringing them home safely, not in a pine box.
