A couple of weeks ago I discovered this project called the American Edit. It was a series of mashups based on Green Day’s remarkable American Idiot album released earlier this year. The collective known as Dean Gray, recently received a cease and desist letter from Green Day’s label, Warner Bros. Records, despite the fact that this work is not for sale or profit. Take a few minutes to listen to it, and you’ll understanbd that it’s a totally different work.

Listen to it, send links to your friends, burn copies for you mom…you get the idea. The goal is not to condone piracy, but rather show the recording industry that the mashup movement is real and vital.
